Artist Turns Classic Board Games Into Horror Movie Posters And They’re Definitely Not For Kids (7 Pics)

Most of us probably remember playing board games when we were little, maybe even now when we’re all grown up. Usually, they are designed to be colorful, happy, and fun, but what if they were a little creepier? What if they had blood, gore, and monsters?

Graphic designer Justin Bryant from Nashville decided he would take something as innocent as board games and turn them into horror movie posters, which surprisingly went very well. The posters are quite chilling and horror movie fans would probably like to see them in the theaters. The artist was inspired by Tim Burton and his ability to mix cute and scary aesthetics.

The artist shared what inspired him to create these creepy posters: “When COVID wiped out the tour industry, I essentially lost my job as a merchandise designer. One afternoon, I was going through my hard drive and found an old poster I made of Hungry Hippos during a ‘design a poster every day’ phase in hopes to get better and build a portfolio.”

“Bored, I decided to reimagine that idea and see how much better I could execute it with my now seasoned Photoshop skills. When finished, I found I really enjoyed working on it and immediately began creating Candyland, and then from there, my brain went wild with ideas on how to do more. It was a fun series that helped distract me from real life for a while and now it’s bringing so much joy to others. It’s quite incredible!”

Justin specializes in music merchandise design. He made a full-time career by creating all sorts of designs for bands, music labels, and artists. He has worked with such bands as 5 Finger Death Punch, Disturbed, Halestorm, and Metallica, as well as artists like Katy Perry, Madonna, P!nk, and many more. He tells more of his story on his website: “I began my design education in 2008 at my BA program at The Creative Center, based in Omaha, Nebraska. For the next 3 years, I was able to focus primarily on art and design with the specialized curriculum that TCC offered. With my passion and drive to succeed in this field, I graduated Valedictorian with a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree in 2011. Promptly after graduating, I accepted an incredible role as the sole designer for a merchandise company that worked with schools and sports teams from around the country. In this introduction to the field, I learned the value of time management as well as the importance of communication and taking care of a client.”

In 2011, he began his internship at the Refinery in California: “It was a dream of mine to design movie posters and DVD covers, and The Refinery fulfilled that dream. For 3 months, I was involved in the creative process behind movie campaigns including Grudge Match, Rio 2, Europa Report, and many more. My contributions wouldn’t end up as a part of any of the final artwork for these projects, but the experience of working with such high-end clientele and a fast-paced environment helped shaped how I work today.”

He has learned a lot through his years of experience. However, Justin wanted something of his own, so he created 11/26 Art Studio. Having his own company has helped him develop and grow as a designer: “I take great pride in my work and am thankful for the opportunities that have sprung from my hard work and commitment to my craft. I feel lucky to work within the industry that I do, and look forward to working with new clients, provide top-notch work, and learn new things along the way.”
