While you’re quarantined at home, your community still needs some help. It all comes down to simple things—sharing food and other supplies with your neighbors or checking on how everyone is doing with a quick call. In fact, there is so much more we could do without setting foot outside our homes.

One of many remote volunteer organizations is the Crisis Text Line, which is there to provide support for people in crisis 24/7. Crisis counselors answer people’s texts and calm them down. The members practice empathy skills, problem solving, and reflective listening, which in turn makes them better companions in life. Meanwhile, Alone invites volunteers to give support to the elderly with a weekly phone call.

Another way to help is supporting your local businesses and non-profits. Find out if you are able to make a purchase online, which is a caring gesture amid these trying times. Many bars and restaurants have also been forced to shut down for quarantine. Consider buying gift cards for your friends and family. San Antonio restaurant owner Steve McHugh explained that “gift cards are like interest-free loans.” The income from gift card purchases is seed money for many eateries that may help get them up and running after the crisis is over.

I have had these from being a welding inspector. I am currently on my way to take them to the hospital so they can use them. Since I am currently laid off I have been cleaning up my garage and found them. I wasn’t hoarding them, I just pick up a pack when I go to a new job because sometimes you go somewhere and they don’t have them. Your supplies are needed by others folks. We all have to chip in and do our part
