Artist Reimagines Disney Princesses And Sailor Moon As Traditional Japanese Art Pieces

There’s a big chance you’ve seen ukiyo-e somewhere before. And no, it’s not the droid character from the Star Wars series. Ukiyo-e is known as one of the most important genres of traditional Japanese art. The name translates to “the pictures of the floating world” and describes the Japanese woodblock prints typical to the 17th-19th centuries.

But tradition doesn’t have to stand still forever, and that’s why modern remakes are always a feast for the eyes. So this time, ukiyo-e is getting a Disney rendition. You heard me right! The illustrator Ono Tako has created beautiful prints featuring Snow White, Cinderella, and The Little Mermaid all inspired by the traditional Japanese technique. Luminous and elegant heroines have won our hearts. Pandas, share your impressions in the comments!
